Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to James and Anne (Fitzgerald) Sousa, Brian lived a life filled with dedication, craftsmanship, and deep love for his family. He spent more than 20 years with IBC Corporation in Easton, MA, where he built lasting friendships. After relocating to Florida, Brian proudly served the Hernando County School District as a custodian. Each morning, he could be found raising the American flag before the school day began—an act he carried out with great pride.
Above all, Brian’s most precious moments were spent with his wife, Kathy. They shared many summers outdoors at Tispaquin Pond Family Campground, their seasonal home away from home. And in his later years, they enjoyed relaxing by the pool and spending time together on the patio at their home in Florida. Brian dedicated his life to being with Kathy, and nothing brought them more joy than simply being in each other’s company.
Brian was passionate about woodworking and loved creating special gifts for his family. Many are fortunate to have a personalized hutch, coffee table, knickknack cabinet, birdhouse, or clock made by his hands. In his early years, Brian spent summers at the Sousa and McManus family camp in New Hampshire, surrounded by many cousins and celebrating summer birthdays and holidays together. He later passed that same tradition on to his own children, giving them the same joyful summers filled with family and connection. Brian cherished his years on Tispaquin Pond in Middleboro as well, whether fishing or enthusiastically pulling his children and their friends across the water on tubes and wakeboards.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kathy (Fredette) Sousa; his son, Kris Sousa, and his children Jackson and Penelope Sousa; his daughter, Wendi Haire, and her husband Justin Haire; his sister, Diane Thomas; his brother, Jackie Sousa; sister in law Jeanne Sousa; sister in law Barbara Sousa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless cousins. The Sousa family is full of love and strength, and that bond was evident throughout Brian’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date up North, where family and friends can gather to share memories and honor Brian together.
