He was born on May 31, 1938, in the village of Fegyvernek (Fegernic, Bihor, Romania), eldest of four brothers. At age 30, Carol made the courageous decision to leave his homeland, then under communist rule, in search of freedom and a new life in America. In 1969, he made his escape to the West and eventually settled in Detroit, Michigan. He learned English, attended vocational school, and built a career as an electrician. Carol went on to work for General Motors for more than 30 years, retiring in 2001.
In 1975, Carol married Martha Dobos. Together they raised a daughter and two sons, and earlier this year celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Carol had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. Summers in Michigan were often spent cultivating his vegetable garden and creating lasting memories with his children, whether taking them fishing on the lake or heading out together on family road trips. He was also a man of many talents, resourceful, hardworking, and remarkably handy. Carol could fix cars, build houses, and was able to repair almost anything that needed fixing. In his later years in Florida, he found joy in gardening, fishing, and reconnecting with friends from his past. More than anything, he loved his family, cherishing every moment with his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Carol was a man of strong Christian faith. He trusted in the Lord to guide him through life’s challenges and his life was a testimony of perseverance, humility, and gratitude for God’s blessings. He now rests in the eternal presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carol is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his children, Martha, John, and Erik; his son-in-law, Robert; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn; his five grandchildren: Savannah, Sierra, Sydney, Penelope, and Johnny; his brother, Sanyi; his sisters-in-law, Maria and Lea; and his nieces, Sandy and Kitty.
He will be forever remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, generosity, and selflessness.
