Mom Mom I love you and will miss you. So many memories of holidays we had together and the dresses you made for me and your great granddaughter Skylin. One of my favorite memories is watching the mummers parade together and voting for our favorite string band.

Below is the eulogy that was written for the services.

Dorothy Jayne Parker was born on December 25, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She preferred to be called Dot, as she very much disliked the name Dorothy. She had a rough childhood, losing both of her parents at a young age. I remember her telling me stories about having to bathe and care for her ailing mother at the age of 13. Her oldest brother George Parker pretty much raised her from the age of 14 and she was very close with him. 

She married around the age of 18 to Edward Raymond Worrell Sr. This was during a time of war and the women at the time helped out the military in whatever capacity they could. My grandmother, Mom-Mom as us grandkids called her was the secretary for a general officer. Interestingly enough, I can still remember a very old typewriter tat she had as a young girl. The kind where the ball of the typewriter contained letters and the ball would hit an inkpad before hitting the paper. She was a very proficient typist.

After the war she gave birth to two children, a boy, Edward Jr. and then a daughter Lynda. She then moved to the Plumridge section in Levittown, Pennsylvania for many years. During her children's years she took fancy to being the ultimate back-stage mom and creating costumes for her children or their dance classes. She had a keen eye to detail and created beautiful pieces. She enjoyed watching both of her children compete in dance competitions. Yet, she pushed them to be the best.

There was a period of time where my grandmother worked as a deli clerk at a store right around the corner from where she lived. That store was still there when I was a young girl. She would tell me a few stories about working there. I think she mentioned that my dad might have worked there when he was a young man.

Later as her children had grown and had a family of their own, she became involved in raising, breeding and showing top quality Persian cats. Her cattery, Maison de Chat, meaning House of Cats in French became of known name in the Cat Fancier's Association, to which she was a member.  She would plan the time of year she would breed her cats as to ensure kittens would be available for sale prior to the holiday season. This was how she earned money to pay for Christmas gifts for her grandchildren. She ended up having 8 living grandchildren in all, Debbie, Nicole, Brenae, Edward IV, Robin and myself from her son and daughter-in-law Cheryle, as well as Mark and Melissa from her daughter and former son-in-law Anthony Maniscola. At a fairly young age we became aware that whatever Santa was not able to bring us, those gifts we still wanted could be found at Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop's house and so they were. They stood in stacks as high as our childhood heights.

In addition to being a member of the Cat Fancier's Association, she was also a board member for William Penn Cat Club as their secretary and one of the founding members. Each year she enjoyed planning their annual September cat show event and the year's theme. Some of us, including myself would get drafted each year to work at the show. This meant that we had to work in the concession area or help clean cages between judging or however else we were needed. This also meant wearing that year's costume, made by her hands, for that year's theme. The last show I was involved with had a circus theme and our costumes were clowns. Mom-Mom did not only take pride in her prized cats, she also took pride in her grandchildren's behavior or so she expected good behavior. It thrilled her to have others praise her grandchildren. Therefore, we knew we had to act accordingly.

Mom-Mom liked to spend her summer down the shore. For Philadelphians, down the shore meant South Jersey shorelines and for Mom-Mom in particular, it meant Wildwood, New Jersey. She loved walking the boardwalk at nights, playing Bingo, riding the tramcar, eating ice cream or white chocolate from Douglas Fudge or spending the day on the beach, down by the ocean until her 3 pm nap. Don't mess with her naps now. One year a few of my sisters and my cousin Melissa were in the other room giggling, back in a day where the belief was children were to be seen and not heard, let's just say their giggling was brief, one raised voice by Mom-Mom and that was it. She also loved to go each year for a trip from Wildwood over to Cape May, specifically to eat at one of her favorite restaurants, Euries. It was an Italian place. I remember one year we were getting ready to go to Eurie's and my sister Debbie, then quite young, decided to cut off all of her bangs. My mother panicked because you did not interfere with Mom-Mom's plans, so she grabbed a pink package bow and stuck it to my sister's forehead. It worked.

Another one of our favorite shore stories is the time that Nicole lost one of her flip-flops. It literally became lodged into the boards of the boardwalk. Now, prior to leaving the hotel room we were advised that we were to keep up and that we were not to stop for anything. Don't mess with a grandmother on a mission. Therefore, my sister kept going, one flip-flop short. When we reached out destination my grandmother looked at her and asked, Where is your other flip-flop? My sister looked up at her with tears in her eyes, pointed back down the boardwalk in the direction we came from and said, Back there. I really do not remember what happened after that. What I do now is that years later these stories still make all of us laugh, including Mom-Mom. These are the stories we get to carry on in our hearts and there are plenty of others.

In addition to our Wildwood stories, we all got to look like the twins. Nothing like an entire group wearing the same thing. Mom-Mom liked to make us each a matching outfit, specifically so that we did match on the boardwalk. Some may say it was to find us easier, but I still think she liked the comments of Oh, how cute is that! Even my Aunt Lynda and my mom had the same matching outfit. What can I say, she liked to sew, she did it most of her adult life. 

Earlier I mentioned that my grandmother enjoyed ice cream, well there was an ice cream shop very close to where she lived in Levittown called Gibby's. Every time I would stay at her home, which was quite often, I was sent to get us ice cream. She was vanilla ice cream with fruit topping sort of gal. I guess that was a good mix since her hubby was all about the chocolate.

In 1992 she moved with her husband to Spring Hill, Florida. She found out about Spring Hill because Nicole was getting married and her fiancé, Daniel Smyth's grandparents lived in Spring Hill. Further, my grandmother wanted to move to Florida and she knew that at least Nicole would be moving to Spring Hill once she married. As it ended up, most of the family on both her son and daughter's side moved to Spring Hill, Florida or the surrounding areas.
Once she was in Spring Hill she no longer bred cats, but she did keep a few. However, she became involved in crafting and making things to sell at craft shows became her passion. She made beautiful dolls, doll clothing, stuffed bunnies, place mats, wreaths and other things. Unfortunately, the cost for creating these things outweighed what people in Florida want to pay for it at craft shows. 

Mom-Mom was a woman who knew what she wanted and of whom took great pride in structure, discipline and skill. Her presence demanded respect. She was a woman who did not and would not settle for less than she deserved. Yet, there was a softer side, a side that was not often seen as she rarely showed it. It was there deep in her blue eyes, warm smile and contagious laugh. This was the side you would yearn for because when it happened, you knew everything would be okay. At the same time, she possessed what we refer to as the evil eye or frown. When she displayed this, you knew you were in trouble. She did not have to say a word. 

Mom-Mom enjoyed reading V.C. Andrews and Stephen King novels She had a love for dance, specifically ballet and for figure skating. She liked to go watch the Ice Follies when I was a young girl. Later on, she would watch Michelle Kwan compete in figure skating competitions that were televised.  She enjoyed traveling, cruises and trips to Hawaii. She lived well up until her mental health began to fail 6 years ago. Every now and again she would emerge with a somewhat lucid conversation, but those days became less. Finally on Sunday, October 25th, 2015 she decided to go and join her loved ones who passed before her. This included her husband who had passed away 5 years ago. It was one day before their wedding anniversary and exactly two months before her 90th birthday. We rejoice that she has made her way home. She is survived by her son, daughter and daughter-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. May she forever rest in peace, but she will always be loved and never forgotten.

To my sweet Mom Mom, you will be missed but I am so happy that you and Pop Pop are finally together again.

Mom Mom, I am not good with expressing myself on paper.... Only with my heart.  Thank you for all your love that you have given me and for what you will continue to give me going forward. I am completely relieved to know that you are finally able to enjoy your life again and to feel the love from many around you. I will see you again to make you laugh and fill your heart with joy. Mom.  I love you and will miss you dearly, but I also know that you're not in pain anymore, mentally or physically.  I picture you walking up to Dad with this big smile.  You're cats racing up to you with joy.  You have so many people that have been waiting for you that I'm actually smiling Mom...I know you're in a much better place.  ((((hugs))))

My Grandmother, Dorothy Parker Worrell was a woman who knew what she wanted and of whom took great pride in structure, discipline and skill. Her very presence demanded respect. My Grandmother was a woman who didn't and wouldn't settle for less than what she felt she deserved. But there was a softer side to her that you could see in her eyes, and when she smiled your heart would fill with Joy, because then you knew all was going to be OK. She was extremely talented, spending hours creating a myriad of things for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took great pride in raising showcats for many years. She carried a critical eye for detail and would constructively correct anything that wasn't up to her standards. It was personally hard for me to get close to her. I would see a hard shell, but could feel someone else was there... A person she barely ever gave permission to peek through. It was confusing to me. We did share a great love for V.C. Andrew novels, the Beauty of Dance and of Ice Skating. For the past six years her soul lingered in her shell... Once in a while you could see Her again, but mostly she continued to hide. She finally decided to let go and join her loved ones waiting for her on the other side this morning at 10:25. Around the time I watched "An Affair to Remember" for the first time. Her physical self may now be empty, but her Soul is full of Life and back with her True Love, Edward Worrell. I'm saddened for the ones still here in Life, but excited for her that she can finally LIVE. I Love You, Mom Mom. You're able to fully see now what we've discussed years ago.

My Mother In Law was my second Mom for many years. I will sadly miss her, but I know she is in a better place.  My Mother In Law to me, and our family, has had no quality of life for several years.  God Bless her, and forever may she live in peace,  comfort, and happiness with her love ones,  that have gone before her.
