Eric Gerhard Bunzel
September 20, 1931 – October 8, 2020
Erich (Eric) Gerhard Herbert Bunzel, of Weeki Wachee, FL and formerly of Long Island, NY, passed away on October 8th, 2020. Eric was born September 20th, 1931 in Monticello, New York to the late Gerhard and Irene Bunzel. In addition to his parents, Eric was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn, who died after a 19 year battle with breast cancer in June 2014. Eric and Marilyn were married for many wonderful years and moved to Weeki Wachee in 1990 where they both enjoyed golfing and retirement together as well as traveling for many years.
Eric served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an infantryman where he received a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star. He worked as a Grumman Aerospace facilities engineer for most of his life and retired in 1991 after working on the Lunar Excursion Model Program, which helped to put the first men on the moon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother in his younger years and later came to enjoy golfing, daily "puzzles," and traveling. He loved nature and wildlife and particularly enjoyed visiting the mountains with family.
He is survived by his brother, George Bunzel (Peggy), his daughter, Donna Poveromo, his son, Joseph Tuccinardi, and grandchildren Adriana Sligh (Corey), Christian Poveromo, Cristina Davis (Scott), Anthony Tuccinardi, Joey Tuccinardi, and Jamie Tuccinardi. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
