Gerald A. Main (Jerry) of Brooksville FL and formerly of East Haven and Milford CT entered into eternal rest on September 22, 2018. He was the husband of Mary Ann Main of Brooksville, FL. He is predeceased by his parents Charles F. Main and Elsie Daggett Main of Milford CT, and his siblings Charles F. Main, Robert I. Main, Muriel Campbell, and Paul S. Main.
Gerald was born in Island Falls, Maine on June 4, 1933. He served in the Navy during the Korean War where he was trained as a dental technician. He worked in that field while pursuing his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from the University of Bridgeport. In New Haven, CT he was Public Information Supervisor at United Illuminating, and a counselor in the Alcohol Recovery Unit at the Shirley Frank Foundation. Following his experience there, he was one of the creators and implementers of the Alcohol Rehabilitation Program at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT until his retirement in 1995.
In his spare time Gerald loved to listen to music, and especially enjoyed folk, classical, jazz, and The Eagles. He played clarinet and acoustic guitar, and sang very well. He was a talented photographer and for years had a side business of creating informational brochures which combined his writing and photography skills with computerized graphic design. He and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling up and down the east coast in their camper, visiting family and friends along the way. He loved being outdoors and kept very active with gardening and handyman tasks, maintaining his 5 acre property which was his pride and joy. He was a soft spoken yet witty man, and never resisted a lively political discussion.
Besides his wife, Gerald leaves his children Gerald Main Jr. (Mary) of Wallingford CT, Kathy D'Agostino (Mark) of Madison CT, Steven Main of East Haven CT, stepson Daniel Camacho of Sebago ME, and dear friends Jason Dillingham and Stephanie Reeves. He leaves grandchildren Brian and Christopher Main, Amanda D'Agostino Sawicki, Nicholas and Adam D'Agostino, and Sarah and Hannah Camacho.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Brooksville Wesleyan Church, 22398 Pasture Lane, Brooksville, FL. on October 16, 2018 at 10:30am. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Arrangements have been made under the direction of the Turner Funeral Home Spring Hill Chapel.
