He was born on January 12, 1932. Gordon was a vibrant soul with an outgoing, fun personality. He enjoyed a good joke and loved to tell them even more.
Gordon was raised in a rural area in Hurley, Wisconsin on a chicken farm. He graduated in 1950 from Hurley High School and served in the National Guard during his time there.
Gordon proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He entered as a Private 1st Class and was Honorably Discharge as a Corporal. He would often say, “I never thought I would be part of history when I was in South Korea”. He was at the airport when a North Korean pilot defected and flew a Soviet designed fighter jet MiG-15 into the US base. This was a plane the U.S. offered a large reward to get. He started taking pictures but the Military Police came over, confiscated his camera and exposed all the film.
After his years of service he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he took a job at A/C Trucking Company and worked his way up the ladder to become the President. He was a very hard worker, instilling great work ethics into his family.
He moved to Spring Hill, Florida in the late 80’s and became a member of the Wisconsin Club. During his time in Florida he became quite the cook, developed close friendships and had a passion for playing Bingo and cards games, particularly: 3 - 13.
He married Virginia (Ginger) Schmidt in 1956 and they had 4 children who he is survived by, Mark (Cindy), Sandra, Todd (Peggy) and Gina. He is also survived by his grandson, Alex DeRosso (Todd) and extended family members Riley McKenzie, Jason Bergquist, and other relatives and close friends. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Leno and Mary DeRosso; his sister, Gloria Stella; numerous relatives and friends.
Gordon’s family is extremely appreciative of the loving care his countless close friends and hospice care teams provided over his last months.
Gordon will be deeply missed by family members and friends for his joy of life and helpful advice from a life well lived. Rest in Peace Gordon.
