James McHugh, Sr., 83, of Brooksville, Florida passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born in Queens, New York on November 22, 1938 to Loughlin and Claire McHugh. He was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Catholic faith.
James (Jim) was preceded in death by his parents, Loughlin and Claire McHugh, sisters Eileen Venables and Carol Fier and brother Jack McHugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years and 11 months, Joan McHugh; sons James McHugh, Jr. and Michael McHugh; daughter Jeannemarie McHugh-Hock; daughter-in-law Anne Lynch - McHugh; son-in-law Brian Hock; granddaughter Emily Anne McHugh; grandson Shane Loughlin McHugh.
Jim graduated from Andrew Jackson High School ( St. Albans, New York) in 1957. He was employed by the New York Sanitation Department (from 1969-1988). Jim was a big fan of horse racing, boxing and football. He also had an appreciation for classic cars and enjoyed cooking and preparing his family’s favorite dishes.
Jim was known as “McGoo” by his close friends and family and adoringly referred to as “Cutie Pie” by his beloved wife, Joan. Jim and Joan were also lovingly referred to as “Joanie and Chachi” by their children.
Jim was a funny man who always had a witty comment or gesture to share. He took the time to sit and chat, always taking an interest in your life. Jim enjoyed “puttering” around his home and yard and caring for his pups.
He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Family will be having a private memorial service.
