He was born in Brooksville, FL February 9, 1949, to James P. Smith Sr. and Mary O. Smith. James graduated from Hernando High School and enlisted into the U.S. Army; he was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. After his time in the Army, he worked as an Arborist until he retired. He was a train enthusiast and collected military memorabilia. He also loved treasure hunting with a collection of bottles, coins, and arrowheads.
He is survived by his three children Sandra (Robert) Perrine, Michael Smith and Patrick Smith. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary Smith. Four grandchildren Devon, Timothy, Christina, and Kaitlyn. Six great grandchildren Liam, Brooklynn, Griffin, Wade, Jameson, and Eliana. A cousin Lee McKinny, nephew Shaun Smith and great niece Hayleigh Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Smith and his brother John (Jack) Smith.
