Jean was married to Harry Horrigan in 1956, sharing many loving years together until his passing in 2005. In 2008, Jean found love again and married Larry Knitter. Their marriage brought her great joy until Larry’s death in 2018.
A passionate gardener, Jean found peace and happiness among her plants and flowers. A trailblazer from a young age, she was the first female to join the 4F Club in high school. At just 18 years old, Jean left home to chart her own course in a time when women typically only left home to marry. Her adventurous spirit carried throughout her life—she became an advanced open-water diver, a member of the Corvette Club, several gardening clubs, and the Red Hat Ladies.
Jean loved to travel and explored many places around the world with both of her husbands, embracing new experiences and cultures along the way.
Jean is survived by her son, Patrick Horrigan (wife Melissa); her sister, Karen; her grandson, Reid (wife Alicia); her granddaughters, Rhianna (husband Steve) and Rachel (fiancé Jake); her great-grandsons, Connor and Weston; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the Humane Society of the Nature Coast.
