John Modesto Bellacosa

John Bellacosa, a beloved resident of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 88. John was born in New York City. He was a navy veteran who dedicated his life to serving as a New York City Transit Police Detective for 26 years. After his retirement he moved to Florida. John is survived by the love of his life, Loretta. They shared 62 wonderful years together.

John is also survived by his two children, Michael Bellacosa (Joan) and Lisa Steinberg (Mark). He was blessed with four grandchildren: Matthew Bellacosa (Willa), Marisa McGovern (Chris), Michele Milian (Steven), and Benjamin Steinberg. John was overjoyed when his great-granddaughter, Jamie McGovern, was born earlier this year.

Golf was John’s passion. He was a dedicated golfer who fondly recalled the early mornings spent waiting in line at Bethpage Golf Course to secure a tee time. He continued his golfing journey by joining a golf club when he moved to florida. He relished the camaraderie with his fellow golfers, winning side bets, and making a hole in one!

John and his family were incredibly grateful that he recently traveled to New York to celebrate his granddaughter Michele’s wedding and to meet his great granddaughter for the first time. This trip allowed him to reconnect with family and friends. John was loved by all, and he will forever be remembered.
