John Wesley Maltby, Jack to most all of us, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 14, 2022 at 6 am, at the age of 72. Jack resided in the Heather with is wife Mary Lee Richardson Maltby and their seven fur babies (4 dogs – Buddy, Teddy, Cody and Kally and 3 cats – Charlie (Jack's pet), Tigger and Tiger) in Weeki Wachee, Florida. He was born to James and Maxine Maltby on March 5, 1950 in Clinton, Illinois. He was a graduate of Clinton High School in 1968. He attended Bob Jones University for 3 years but, graduated from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois. Jack was deacon at Carlisle Christian Church and President of the Deacon Board at Lighthouse Community Church. He was active as Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader, and pastor in many of the Churches they attended over the years. Of course, he was also tenor singer in Blood Washed Band in Illinois, Homeland Trio, Lighthouse Quartet and Homeland Quartet in Iowa. Then, Homeland Quartet in Florida. Because of his interest at an early age he became a member of International Chess Club where he played people from all over the world.
Jack fought the battle of Multiple Sclerosis and Transverse Myelitis for 22 years. But the final battle with infections was more than his body could fight. Prior to his illness he was Aquatic Director at the YMCA in Clinton and Bloomington, Illinois. He was also a tennis and swim coach. It was as swim coach that he took 3rd place at National YMCA Swim Meet in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Following that he was a Real Estate agent for Colewell Banker Real Estate. He then joined Mary in the Pampered Poodle Grooming Shop. Then in 1990 Jack and Mary moved to Iowa in order to care for Mary's mother, Mary Richardson. During all that he was a lay speaker, which turned into a 5 year pastorate at Ackworth Friends Church. This was when he also started his own business of Laser Works, which was a remanufactured cartridge and laser printer repair that employed 15 people. In 2009, Jack's illness had progressed to the point that caused them to close the business and move to Florida to then care for his Dad, Jim Maltby.
Jack and Mary Lee were married March 5, 1979. He is survived by his wife, Mary and his older brothers Jim & wife Linda and Jerry & wife Joy. The brothers and families both continue to reside in Illinois along with their children, Jack's nieces and nephews and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 17 at 1 pm prior to the service at 2 pm at Faith Baptist Church, 175 Springtime St., Spring Hill, FL
