2022. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
Johnny was born March 1, 1944 to Freddie Jackson and Minnie Elizabeth Holland in Lithia FL.
He served his country for 28 years in the United States Navy and retired as Chief Holland. He
was a member at Indian Hill Baptist Church but over the last decade served at Faith
Presbyterian Church. Although he had many jobs and accomplishments he was best known for
JD Welling Drilling. Through the years he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Nursery
Worker, Cook, Ordained Minister and the man that always had candy in his pocket to share.
Johnny loved people and was a proud Door Greeter at church. With a loud voice, a big smile
and a firm hand shake that, yes, had a piece of candy in it. He was a story teller and had many
jokes. He often answered the phone… “JD’s pool hall, eight ball speaking.” If you asked him
how he was feeling his answer was always one of two things; “ With my hands” or “ Finer than
a frog’s hair, split 4 ways and honed down real good.” Some of his hobbies and interests were
woodworking, gardening, sewing, weaving, crocheting, whittling, singing, musical instruments,
photography, creating and building, tractor work of any kind, researching his family tree,
volunteered his time with the Peace River Band Me’tis and the Florida Frontiersmen
Rendezvous. He found beauty in all of God’s creation. Johnny never met a stranger and would
give anyone the shirt on his back. There really wasn’t anything he couldn’t do or fix.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Alva Holland Turgeon whom welcome
him to his final home in heaven where we will see him again.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Holland, 5 children ( Libby, Francie, Tallie,
Dell and Amy); 5 siblings (Jack, Peggy, Berry, Gilbert and Sally); 19 grandchildren and 25 great
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date.
