June 30, 1954 – April 18, 2025
Joseph R. Polumbo, affectionately known as “Moon,” passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Spring Hill, Florida, at the age of 70.
Born on June 30, 1954, Joseph was the beloved son of the late Antonina Alvarez and Joseph R. Polumbo.
He was also predeceased by his infant daughter, Melissa.
Joseph’s early career began with Murphy’s Fuel Company in Bayonne, New Jersey. He later found his calling with the New York City Board of Education, where he worked in food services until his retirement. In his younger years, Moon had a passion for tattooing and spent time practicing the craft in Asbury Park, NJ.
A man of many interests, Joseph loved talking on the CB radio, and it was through that shared hobby that he met the love of his life, his devoted wife, Kimberly Rego Polumbo. Together, they became members of the Bayonne Elks Lodge, where Joseph found joy and camaraderie as part of the motorcycle committee.
Joseph also had a great love for bargain hunting. Before moving to Florida, he spent many weekends frequenting yard sales and making regular trips to the Englishtown flea market, always in search of a good deal and a great conversation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Polumbo, who remained by his side through all of life’s chapters. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Allyson Wiackley and Christine Rego; brothers-in-law, Kevin Rego and Christopher Wiackley; nieces, Kellie Wiackley, Sydnee Rego, Myranda Rego, Sara Haehnel, Krista Haehnel, and Emma Haehnel; nephews, Hans Haehnel, Thomas Rego, and Leland Wiackley; and many cherished cousins.
Joseph will be remembered for his unique spirit, his sense of humor, and the way he connected with others through conversation, creativity, and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
