Kathleen was a vital part of the Hernando County School Board of Transportation, where she worked for more than 30 years. FEMA-certified, she also helped facilitate the evacuation of citizens with special needs during hurricanes and other disasters, managing the process with efficiency and compassion.
Her daughter Caitlin was the light of her life. Although Kathleen left us far too soon, she had the opportunity to see Caitlin graduate last year from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, which filled her with pride.
Kathleen was an avid kayaker and cyclist, as well as an unwavering supporter of the Tampa Bay Lightning. She was an animal lover who enjoyed looking after her “grand dog” Pip and had a soft spot for giraffes and manatees.
Her friends and family appreciated her sense of humor, which was equal parts shrewd and silly, and her uncanny ability to relate any life event to an episode of Frasier. In addition, Kathleen was known for her culinary skills, with her meatballs and pumpkin pie achieving legendary status. When people were going through a difficult time, Kathleen would inevitably show up with a generous portion of comfort food.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter Caitlin Polcaro of Tampa, parents Tony and Betty Navoy of Spring Hill, sister Judith Navoy of New Orleans, and loving companion Joseph Handzus. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but we can honor her memory by emulating her kindness.
