Larry Peek Westmoreland

He was born on February 12, 1935, in Griffin, Georgia to Elbert Westmoreland and Mary Peek. In 1967, Larry married Ellen Westmoreland in Louisville, Kentucky. Together they built a family, raising 2 sons and 2 daughters.

In his early years, Larry demonstrated leadership and commitment, serving as Vice President of his senior class in high school in Griffin, Georgia—an early sign of the dependable presence he would continue to be throughout his life. He went on to courageously serve our country in the United States Army.

Larry’s commitment to community was extensive and enduring. He was part of the Jaycees and the Freemasons, and a member of the Crescent Hill Lodge #820. He was also a member of Kosair Temple, where he became Kosair Charity Secretary. Larry served on the board of Governors at the Kosair Crippled Children's Hospital and on the board of directors of the Masonic Widows & Orphans Home & Infirmary. For a time, he was also president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky. In each role, he was known for showing up, following through, and giving his time with the same hard-working spirit that defined his life.

Larry found enjoyment in the simple and familiar pleasures that brought rhythm to his days: golfing, tennis, and following sports such as basketball and football. He also took a keen interest in watching the stock market.

He is preceded in his passing by his parents, Mary Peek and Elbert Westmoreland; his twin brother, Lovic Westmoreland; and sister, Mary Francis Westmoreland.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Ellen Hill Westmoreland; his children, Jeffrey Sims Westmoreland, David Brent Westmoreland, Cynthia Helena Bell, and Allison Westmoreland Weaver; his 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson; and his sister, Edith Newby.

Larry Peek Westmoreland will be remembered with respect and gratitude, and his absence will be felt by all who cherished him. His life stands as a testament to steadfast service, enduring love, and the lasting impact of a beloved presence.
