Marita Hickey was a beloved colleague, teacher, and friend of many in the Northport- East Northport School District. She was a gifted educator who made math class interesting and challenging for her students. Both of my daughters had her for a teacher and loved her enthusiasm and genuine interest in being sure every student had numerous opportunities to come for coaching and extra help to excel and do well. She was there for her students and extra coaching was available to not just poorly performing students but also AP students who needed reassurance they were succeeding.

She was an enthusiastic Districtwide Mathematics Department Chairperson and creative colleague who was always ready to enhance and enrich the curriculum. She was willing to work with others to improve instruction and share her joy of problem solving. She was witty and genuinely enjoyed her days with colleagues and students. I always looked forward to her regular visits to ENMS. We would a find time to share a story and a laugh.

She was a much loved wife and mother who was proud and devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her new home in Florida, and I am sure will be sadly missed by many.

Marita Hickey was a kind, caring, compassionate educator with a great sense of humor and an inspirational love of sharing good times with family and friends. Her hard work in the Northport-East Northport School District impacted many people and her legacy will live on through our fine teachers whom she lead, and all of the students whose lives she touched. Rest In Peace, Marita, you will be long remembered!

Marita will be remembered in my heart for her friendship, caring, knowledge, grace, and spirit of adventure. I am especially grateful that she took on an extra calculus class during my sick leave with cancer. No need to worry about my students while she was there as I recovered!

My sympathies to Steve, Becky, Alison, Nicholas, Gavin and Knox, her sisters SR. Lorraine and Virginia. She is (and always has been) an angel for you...just now in a different place.

Love and Prayers, Terri (McIsaac) Horan

Thank you Marita for all of the support you gave me and countless numbers of students and staff members in the Northport-East Northport School District. You were an amazing chairperson, educator, and, most importantly, friend. Thank you for being so positive and supportive, especially early in my career. You were the first person I had the chance to work for and I enjoyed every minute. You will be missed...

I loved working with Marita in our time in the Northport school district. Marita was fun, kind and caring. But most of all her dedication to all students was inspiring. Her colleagues had a great respect for her.
She loved her family! She would always keep us posted on the family happenings. My condolences to her family. Cherish the memories and take care of one another!

Marita was very well respected in Northport during her tenure there as a math teacher and department chair, and not just for her intelligence and hard work, but also for her warmth and approachability. She was well liked by all who came in contact with her. Rest in peace.
