Marjorie Catherine Garforth – loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend – passed away on Sunday November 2, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Garforth who preceded her in death in 2022.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine A. Jakuboski, and her daughter and son-in-law Cynthia L. and Emmitt G. Taylor. She was blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Scott W. Jakuboski, Amanda C. Jakuboski, and Matthew W. Taylor.
Marjorie was born on October 10, 1945, to Margaret (McLaren) and Ulysses Smith in Neptune, New Jersey. Marjorie was born with a condition called Cerebral Palsy which limited her physically however she never let it stand in her way of accomplishing what she set her mind to do.
She graduated from Asbury Park High School in New Jersey and soon after met our father through a mutual doctor. On June 13, 1970, Marjorie and Bill were married at the United Methodist Church in Neptune City, New Jersey. The love they shared was evident to everyone who knew them. Whether they were holding hands or tackling an obstacle, nothing was too great for them to overcome together.
Marjorie dedicated her life to her family. As a stay a home mom, she was frequently baking deserts, sewing Halloween costumes, or crafting decorations for her friends and family. She believed in always being there for her kids and grandkids whether that meant buying school supplies or helping with homework, especially last-minute assignments that were due the next day. Coloring with Amanda and playing Battleship with Scott and Matt were some of her favorite activities and her grandchildren loved her for it.
She was known for her kindness, strength, creativity, and smile. Her passion for crafts was a source of deep pride and enjoyment as evidenced by her hands were rarely still.
Marjorie was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Red Hat Society for many years, and she cherished the lifelong friendships she made thru these organizations.
Our mother served as the backbone of our family. She always persevered thru any situation and those who knew her always remarked on her beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed but we know that she is at peace in heaven with the Lord and that her and our father have been reunited, together again, forever.
