Martin proudly served the city he loved as a New York detective for 26 years. His sharp wit, steady presence, and deep commitment to protecting others defined his career and the way he lived his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alicia, who passed away in 2007. Martin is survived by his brother, Stu Schenkman, and by his five children, whom he adored: Laura and her husband John, parents to three children and one grandchild; Larry and his wife Diane, parents to four children and four grandchildren; Keith and his wife Lisa, parents to three children and two grandchildren; Jason and his wife Karen, parents to four children and one grandchild; and Alicia and her husband Jared, parents to four children and three grandchildren.
Family meant everything to Martin. To his children and grandchildren, he was lovingly known as Pop and Pop Pop. He cherished every moment spent with his family and took great pride in each generation.
Martin had a passion for collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and anything related to Coney Island. He also had a love for drumming during his Marty Cane days, a fun and memorable part of who he was that brought out his playful side and gave his family plenty of stories to remember.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a one-of-a-kind man whose personality, humor, and presence made life brighter for everyone who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at Turner Funeral Homes, Crematory and Cemetery, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609, US, on September 26, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Catered Reception will follow from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm.
The Committal Service will take place at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens, 14354 Spring Hill Dr, Spring Hill, FL 34609, US, on September 26, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
