Melvin Joseph Maier

Melvin “Doc” Maier of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Winona, Minnesota, passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 91. Doc was born on March 27, 1935, in Winona, Minnesota, to Joseph and Gertrude Maier.

Melvin built a life marked by steady work and quiet dedication. He was employed at Rush Products and later at Lake Center Industries, and he was also self-employed for a number of years. In his earlier days, music was an important part of his life, and he played bass with the Kenny Carl band.

Melvin is survived by his son Jim (Sheri) Maier of Rollingstone; daughter-in-law Stacy Maier; sisters Joanne Rompa of Winona and Bonnie Czaplewski of Winona; sister-in-law Celine Sobotta; granddaughter Amanda (Ben) Leisen of Blaine, Minnesota; grandson Ryan Maier of Winona; great-grandchildren Nolan and Clara Leisen of Blaine, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; sons Ronald and Robert; brothers Eugene and Dennis; and sister Evelyn Kowalewski. He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law John Rompa, Jim Czaplewski, and Bob Kowalewski; sister-in-law Janine Maier; and brothers- and sister-in-law Leonard Wicka, Clarence and Delores Wicka, Melvin and Rita Wicka, Jimmy & Maryann Wicka, Ben Sobotta, and Rosie and Kermit Fabian.

A burial will be held at a later date.
