Nila Jean Godown

Born on March 22, 1933, in Abington, PA, to John and Marietta Utzy she carried with her a steady grace and a deeply cherished presence throughout her life.

She was a graduate of Doylestown High School.

On September 1, 1951, she married the love of her life, Vernon D. Godown. Vernon and Jean had four children, Mark, Wendy, Bruce, and Bonnie. In the years that followed, she devoted herself to her home and family as a homemaker, giving her days to the quiet, essential work of care, constancy, and love.

Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Vernon; her younger daughter, Bonnie; and her eldest son, Mark. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Hansen of Spring Hill, FL; her son, Bruce Godown of Lebanon, OH; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her two sisters, Judy Buck of Doylestown, PA, and Dorothy Ritchie of Vero Beach, FL.

Those who knew Jean remember the devotion she showed not only within her own family, but also in the care she extended to others, babysitting other children and offering steady support in the Bereavement Club in Sugarmill Woods. In these simple, meaningful ways, she remained a beloved part of the lives and communities around her. After her husband passed, she joined a ladies Domino game club in Sugarmill Woods.

As she wished, no formal services will be held for Jean. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Florida National Cemetery.
