Born and raised in Englewood, CO she was a resident of Florida since 2002. Pilar held degrees from Metropolitan State College and the University of Phoenix. Pilar was dearly loved by her parents Ana and Jack Restivo of Colorado, and David and Mary Ellen Dewey of Arizona and Colorado, as well as her sister Elaina Dewey of Colorado. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Dewey from Texas. Her extended family includes numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kindness and compassion were hallmarks of Pilar’s personality. Throughout her career in the social and criminal justice system she worked tirelessly to bring understanding, care and guidance to those whose life she touched. Whether she was dealing with the needs of people with disabilities, the issues of child welfare, or the challenges she addressed everyday as a senior member of the Florida Dept. of Corrections, she always remembered the value of people and the importance of dignity.
When she wasn’t working with people, Pilar turned her focus to her other passion, dogs. She rescued several dogs, including retired racing greyhounds and other homeless dogs, and she joyfully volunteered at animal rescue shelters. Her faithful companions Ruthie and Dutchman, who frequently accompanied her during her outdoor adventures and travels, were the leading characters in a children's book series she had been developing.
Pilar will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to those she loved, her grace and courage in facing life’s challenges, her gentle heart and thoughtfulness. Her legacy of kindness will remain forever imprinted in the hearts and minds of the people whose lives she touched.
A memorial service and toast to her life will be celebrated on Friday, June 19th, at 1:00 at Merritt Funeral Home — Spring Hill Chapel, 4095 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, FL.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to any mental health or suicide prevention organization.
