Ray lived a life devoted to learning, service, faith, and helping others. He pursued higher education throughout his life, earning advanced degrees and graduating just shy of obtaining his Doctorate. As an educator working with children with special needs, Ray found his true calling. He was deeply passionate about each child he was blessed to guide, dedicating his career to helping them learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential.
Outside of his profession, Ray found joy in the beauty of God’s creation. He loved sailing, hiking, planting, and creating crafts with his hands. Whether exploring nature or working on a new project, he brought creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm to all he did.
Faith was the foundation of Ray’s life. Through every challenge and battle he faced, he remained steadfast in his belief that Jesus was always with him. After attending ministry school, he devoted many years to leading small Christian groups, encouraging others in their faith and sharing God’s love through fellowship, compassion, and service.
Ray believed deeply in faith, but he also took seriously God’s gift of free will. He understood that life is shaped by the choices we make and the paths we follow. Those who loved him often saw the remarkable compassion, patience, and grace he extended to his students and to the people he cared about. As his family, we sometimes wished he had shown that same kindness to himself. Yet Ray never expressed regret for the road he traveled. He believed that every experience, every struggle, and every blessing was part of God’s plan for his life, and he found peace in trusting that his path was exactly where God wanted him to be.
Ray is survived by his brothers, Robert Gomez and Anthony Gomez; sister-in-law, Tammy; sister, Dawn Gomez; nephews, Robert, Frankie, Anthony; niece, Toni Marie; and Great nieces and nephews Elianna, Grace, Everett and Angel. He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, dedication to education, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Rest with the Lord in our hearts and memory till we meet again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Merritt Funeral Home - Spring Hill (4095 Mariner Blvd, Spring Hill, FL 34609) on June 15, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
