He was born in Providence, Rhode Island and was raised in Warwick. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He later attended school in Connecticut, earning a certificate in tool making. He was employed at Speidel Manufacturing for 12 years, and later at Monet Jewelers.
He met and married Jackie Wilcox, and together they raised two children: son, Robert Jr. and daughter, Mia McHale; and one grandson, Robert Flamand III.
Robert was a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. He also taught High School part-time, which he enjoyed.
