Robert Grady Summerlin (Bob) lived a life encapsulated by love, endless wonder, and exuberant adventures. He was born on December 19, 1953, in Newton, Mississippi. He passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 72 in Spring Hill, Florida.
My father left an imprint that spans the world. He was lucky to devote himself to a career he truly loved. He poured his passion into his work, serving as a mechanical manager on jobsites across the globe, constructing U.S. embassies, consulates, resorts, and army bases. Yet more than his love for work was his love for his family. Nothing was above us. There was no denying that his love reached people; his love for us can be felt from the depths of our souls.
My father was more than extraordinary at many things; to us, he was limitless in what he could do. He was a force that could not be stopped, and obstacles were mere pebbles on his path. When he wanted something done, it was a guarantee that it would get done. Even when he didn’t know how, he somehow found the answer, and, like magic, the task was complete. He lived the kind of life found in storybooks, one that many could only dream of.
He respected the ocean, and he felt music. He was drawn to the untamed wilderness and could rebuild an engine. He chased the thrills life offered and wanted to skydive. He adored animals and cherished the loyal companionship of dogs. He molded creations with his hands and breathed life into them. He was the most intelligent person I have ever known, yet remained humble. He was an Air Force veteran. He was always there offering a steady hand. He knew poetry and delighted in happily ever afters. He was patient, gentle, and kind. He was a teacher to those who listened. He was a student, ever ready with an open mind. He had faith in God. He had a sweet tooth. He had strength that no one could compare to. He had trust and honor. He is unforgettable. He took chances. He dived, jumped, and flew. He ran. He danced and loved. And was loved in return.
There are no words that could suffice to express how proud we are of you and our eternal gratitude for everything you have done in loving and supporting us. We love you forever and always, till we meet again, Daddy.
He was preceded in death by his son Bobby Summerlin; his father, Grady Lee Summerlin; his mother, Pansy Belle Thomas; his sister, Louise Shepard; his niece, Donna Boling; and his nephew, Tommy Young. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Summerlin; his children, Robert Lee, Megan, Brittany, Sheena, and Camille Summerlin; his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Diana Van Luven and Cherryl McDaniel; and his nieces and nephews.
