Roy L. Garner, 77, of Weeki Wachee, Florida passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018. He was born in Goldsboro, Maryland to Rayburn and Olive Garner. He started his career working for State Farm Insurance, later as a salesman/manager at Sears, and also as an entrepreneur of different business ventures. In 1987 he graduated from Trinity Bible College and found his passion as a teacher at Hernando Christian Academy. Roy later took the helm as Hernando Christian Academy’s Principal/Administrator while also becoming an adjunct professor for Trinity Bible College and being very active in prison ministries.
Roy’s legacy continued as he helped establish and open West Hernando Christian Academy, becoming their first Principal/Administrator. His career in Christian leadership eventually landed him as pastor of Garden Grove Baptist Church. He taught and preached in many churches throughout the local area. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brooksville.
With a history in business and finance, Roy maintained a successful tax business for over 20 years as he moved into retirement. He loved to travel and spending time on the boat with family. As a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, pastor, and friend too many Roy will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his stepson Gregory Allen.
He is survived by his loving wife Dolores A. Garner; sons Randy and Greg Garner, Kevin Garner (Heidi), Jeffrey Allen (Karen); daughter Michelle Wilson; 11 grandchildren, many great and great, great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:00-1:00PM Sunday, September 16, 2018. Funeral service will follow at 1pm all located at Turner Funeral Home 14360 Spring Hill Dr., Spring Hill, FL. 34609. Committal service will be at Florida Hill Memorial Garden in Spring Hill.
