Shirley was unmarried as her teenage romance was cut short due to the Korean Conflict. Charlie did not ask her to wait for him. Shirley entered the Miss South Bend Contest despite her freckles, which she was very self-conscious about and having a boyfriend (Vince) who objected. After achieving second place and returning Vince’s engagement ring, Charlie re-emerged from SE Asia.
They were married and blessed with three children of which #2 and #3 (Patrick and Kathleen) died shortly after birth, which left an open wound in Shirley’s heart ♥️.
Shirley and Charlie worked diligently building a home in between shoveling snow and vacations in Ft Lauderdale. Entertainment included bb-q, parties in the back yard with friends and family, live musical performances and theatre both locally and in nearby City of Chicago.
Shirley studied and became a para-legal which brought on stress due to volume of work and intra-office politics. Shirley retired and built a home on land purchased in the 70’s at Springhill which she considered precious. Shirley did continue to work part-time in Brooksville in the legal field eventually spending time focused on music, 🎵,additionally, “moonlighting as a pianist and organist”, taking in the natural beauty of her property from the perspective of her lanai and enjoying dining out at any time, “ready to roll and hard to control”.
Now we lay her down to rest alongside her husband and nearby her partner of 23 years, Jack, who passed away in 2023.
Please send any tokens of remembrances to the Charity of St Jude in Chicago, a place of miracles, devotion and love for life which is precious and a blessing from God!
