Born on November 27, 1947, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Betty Steinseifer. In 1969, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Ferguson, in Kenosha.
Susan accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a teenager at Kenosha Bible Church, where she grew in her faith through the church's teaching and a vibrant Young People's group that deeply shaped her spiritual journey.
A graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School, Class of 1965, Susan went on to attend Emmaus Bible School in Oak Park, Illinois, for one year, where she met her future husband. After their marriage, she supported Bill as he attended LeTourneau College in Longview, Texas.
Susan was a woman of many talents and a heart for service. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Kenosha School System and was the first manager of the CCSE Federal Credit Union. Later, while living in Salamanca, New York, she volunteered as an EMT with the Seneca Nation Fire Department and the Salamanca Volunteer Fire Department. She made history as the first female employed by the Salamanca Fire Department, where she served with distinction as a firefighter and paramedic, even delivering seven babies while on ambulance calls.
She also served faithfully as the bookkeeper for Ferguson Printing, her husband's business, and volunteered in numerous roles at Camp Li-Lo-Li and in the churches she attended throughout her life.
Sue was the best example of selfless service to others. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and she always placed the welfare of her husband and children above her own. Sue was also fun! She loved playing all kinds of games but hated to lose. As kind as she was in every area of life, she showed no mercy to her opponents. As all her grandchildren found out, whether it was Spoons, Dominoes, Dutch Blitz or Ticket to Ride, Sue was in it to win it.
Although she never achieved fame or fortune, Sue did something far more important. In what really matters, Sue excelled; she was a wonderful wife, an amazing mother, and faithful follower of Jesus. And in doing so she demonstrated to all who knew her, what a life well-lived looks like.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Bill; her children, Benjamin (Mary) of Crystal River, FL and Nancy (John) of Pico Rivera, CA; her brother, Bill (Barb) of Phoenix, AZ; her sister, Kathy (Bob) of Kenosha, WI; and her beloved grandchildren, Forrest, Isabella, Amelia, Cody, and Moriah. She is preceded in death by her brother, Bob.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Susan’s life and faith will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Cornerstone Baptist Church (13170 Tara Street, Spring Hill, FL 34609). The service can also be watched online at: cornerstonebaptisthc.com.
In lieu of flowers, Susan requested that memorial donations be made to Camp Li-Lo-Li (Randolph, NY) or Cornerstone Baptist Church (Spring Hill, FL), two places close to her heart.
