

Sydney I. Wilson, age 86, of Spring Hill, FL. died on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Oak Hill Hospital. Sydney was born on August 24, 1928, in Rainbow City, Republic of Panama, to the late William James & Adina Frances (Harris) Wilson. Sydney and his family moved from Panama to Brooklyn, NY then moved to the family’s longtime home in Queens, NY, and upon his retirement, he moved his family to Spring Hill, FL. in 1988. Sydney began his working career as an accountant for the Fernies Steamship Lines in the Canal Zone, Republic of Panama; in the US he worked for Stanley Banks in Manhattan, NY. Sydney then joined the US Post Office as a Clerk, and advanced to Postal Inspector and on to the Team Leader in charge of Queens, Nassau & Suffolk Counties. Sydney retired from the US Post Office with 20+ year of service in 1988. Episcopalian by faith, Sydney and Daphne worshiped at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Spring Hill. He was remembered for his great appreciation of music. He played Saxophone and Clarinet, loved bowling, playing softball, dancing, and was an avid Table Tennis player. Sydney is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley Wilson, Herbert Wilson, and Lloyd Wilson, as well as his sister, Iris Mae Wilson. Sydney is lovingly survived by his wonderful wife Daphne V. (Chambers) Wilson. He married Daphne in 1950 in Colon, Republic Of Panama. Sydney is also survived by his son, Arnaldo Wilson and his Fiancée, Veldora Johnson, of Queens, NY. grandson, Alando Antonio Wilson and his wife Janelle of Queens, NY. great grandchildren; Christopher, Bryanna, David, Jahmir, Roman, and Alyssa. Sydney will be greatly missed by his sisters-in-laws; Aida Wilson, Caroline Wilson, and Iris Wilson, as well as brother, Wesley “Les” Wilson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Sydney’s family and friends will gather for a viewing at the Turner Funeral Homes, Spring Hill Chapel, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL on Monday, August 17, 2015, from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 6 pm, with Fr. Magar “Mike” Bedrosian, Retired, officiating. A catered reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Cremation will follow all services, and burial will take place at a later date at the Florida Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research or Alzheimer’s Foundation, in Sydney’s memory.
