

Viola Virginia (Pierce) Hays, also known as Virginia or Sis, formerly of Farragut, Iowa, passed away on November 26, 2017 at Crown Pointe, Spring Hill, Florida at the age of 96. Virginia was born on February 7, 1921 to John and Ruth Pierce in the small town of Thurman, Iowa. She then attended 2 different country schools in Bartlett and McPaul, Iowa. She lived in California and Maryland. She then had two marriages from which came four daughters. On March 4, 1952 Virginia married Alvin L. Hays, Jr., known as “June” in Oklahoma. They resided on a farm in Farragut, Iowa. She worked for Earl May Seed Company until January 1968. She then moved to Dunedin, Florida where she worked and retired from Nielsen’s Rating Company and then moved to Spring Hill, Florida. Her hobbies included fishing, bowling, playing cards, crocheting and playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Pierce; father, John Pierce; brothers, Denver and Gene Pierce; daughter, Connie Howery (Bowlin) and her late husband Alvin J. Hays “June”. Virginia is survived by her daughters: Ruth (Lamolinara) Connell and spouse Joe Connell of Riverton, Iowa; Dorothy Lamolinara and spouse Bill Supulski of Texas; and Deanna (Howery) Donahue and significant other Ed Donahue of Thurman, Iowa. Also, nine grandkids: Tina, Troy, Tony, Tonya, Jeff, Michelle, Michael, Angelina and Leah; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; sister in law, Renate Pierce; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
