Bill was born on November 11th, 1947, in Pittsburg, PA to William and Betty Ferguson. He grew up in Murrysville PA, with his brother Jim and sisters Betsy and Cathie. Accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age, his life was shaped by this and in 1966, Bill attended Emmaus Bible School in Oak Park, IL earning a diploma in Biblical Studies. It was at Emmaus that he met Susan Steinseifer of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and in 1969 Bill and Susan were married. Shortly thereafter, Bill and Sue moved to Longview, Texas where Bill enrolled at LeTourneau College. In 1971, he graduated with a degree in Aviation. After graduation Bill enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany as a Chaplain’s assistant. Upon returning home he worked for the Salamanca Press as a printer until 1985, when he established Ferguson Printing which served the printing needs of the greater Cattaraugus County and northern Pennsylvania regions. Bill served his community as an Alderman for two terms between 2000-2003 and 2006-2012, and as the Salamanca Police Commissioner in 2002-2003 and again in 2006-2009. Along with his political involvement he took part in many theatrical productions put on by the Village Players in Salamanca.
Camp Li-Lo-Li has always been close to Bill’s heart when as a teenager he was asked to take care of the horses for a week before camp started. Over the years he was a camper, counselor, wrangler and head wrangler. He was also involved in the camp corporation where he served in many positions over the years as registrar, staff coordinator, Vice President, and finished off his years as the Treasurer. Bill’s desire to share the life, love and light that God gives freely to all motivated both his involvement in camp and in his daily life.
He is survived by his children, Ben (Mary) and Nancy (John), and his grandchildren Forrest, Izzy, Mia, Cody and Moriah. Along with siblings, Jim (Donna), Betsy (Al), Cathie (Jerry) and Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Betty and the love of his life, Susan.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life and faith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 6th at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 13170 Tara St., Spring Hill, FL 34609. The service can also be watched online at: cornerstonebaptistchurchhc.com.
In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that memorial donations be made to Camp Li-Lo-Li (Randolph, NY) or Cornerstone Baptist Church (Spring Hill, FL), two places close to his heart.
