When my oldest living SVSHS friend and 1965 classmate Bob Doucette just emailed me (5/21/2024), "You were always good at math" -- i shot right back to him, "I owe it all to Mrs. Golar!"  She was a patient and tenacious teacher who paved the way from basic algebra to trig to calculus, and believe me, it was survival of the fittest by the middle of 12th grade.  Of all the better teachers we had those years -- Singer, McSweeney, Rinis, Bruso, Greenberg, and Dr. B come to mind -- for my money, Mrs. Golar was the Top Of the Pops!

I graduated SVHS in 1976 and had Mrs. Golar for my last
2 years, senior year for Calculus.   I am in science and so use
my calculus regularly.  I've been meaning over the years to
try to contact Mrs. Golar to tell her how interesting and useful
her courses were.  Now I guess I'm too late :( .   But at least I
can let you know.

Sending my sympathy to Mrs. Golar’s family and loved ones. I remember Mrs. Golar from when I was one of her students at Spring Valley High School in the early 70’s ,and years later Finkelstein Library. What a life well lived! There is a lovely tribute to her on the front page of the library’s Spring newsletter.

Thank you for teaching me math and for actually making it enjoyable. You were a fantastic teacher and will live in my heart forever.

I had Mrs.  Golar as an algebra teacher in SVHS back in the day. I was not very good at it and she really tried to make me understand and somehow I was able to pass that  class (barely).  What a patient woman she was. RIP Mrs.  Golar

When I was Director of FML, Alice had already been on the Board for many years. She was usually the only Board member who would go to lobby day with me. Although already well into her 70s, she ran up and down the stairs at the Capitol. She was an amazing person and I always said I wanted to grow up like her.

Ms. Golar was a fantastic math teacher.  She always said "math is the root of business"  Thank you Ms. Golar for your teachings.

Dear Nancy, Martha, Evan -

Alice was always bigger than life to me.  Eating dinner at your house when I was a child was always an educational adventure and inspiration.  I looked up to her as a model of what a woman could do and accomplish.  I am so glad that she was able to live a long and productive life.
