Feels like it's been both 5 years and a lifetime. Good visit today,  sunny but windy, great for a sail.

I was thinking about my Dad a lot yesterday. 
Fall of 2019 the very first primary candidate to speak in my home town (which sees a lot of candidates) was Cory Booker and dad happened to be visiting so we went.
He was delighted, despite his adversity to crowds we picked a spot in the corner and as luck would have it were in the sight line of the candidate so got a lot of eye contact. The energy from Dad and the packed room was as much for Cory as it was for the future of American politics. Dad made me promise to alert him as each person rallied through town. 
Hanging out in the sunshine yesterday waiting for Kamala to talk I wished so much Dad were with me. He would have been terribly cranky about all the waiting and lines so would have ADA’d his way to comfort BUT he also would have had animated joyful conversations with EVERYONE. I’d smile each time he repeated witticisms stolen from my mom’s repertoire. I’d listen as he connected with all the Vet’s (there was so much networking going on) and I’d have enjoyed the post rally glow of patriotic hope.

Barie was a very successful person who had keen knowledge of what he termed to be legal billing fraud.  He had a great command of many subjects and many underestimated his intellect.

He was and always will be a positive memory by the plain and simple truth of who he really was!

Barie was an amazing person and very opinionated.  He had a love for acting and I regret not going to one of his performances.

Baz had very high morals and ethics.  His vast knowledge of insurance laws served him quite well. His family was very blessed for having him in their lives.  It was and is shocking that he passed away so young and innocent!

I costarred with Baz in 1996 in an OOB production of G.B. Shaw's MISALLIANCE. He was a delight to work with onstage and off; and his artistry and personal story transcended the darkness of his childhood. His passion for the sea and the stage were nothing short of infectious. May his memory be for a blessing.

I worked with Barie in 1996, he played my father in Misalliance at the West Side Repertory Theater in New York. He was a wonderful actor and a delight to work with. I'm sorry that we didn't stay in touch. 

It was always such a pleasure to come to work at West Marine and know that I'd be working with Baz that day.  He always had the warmest greeting and the strongest handshake.  It was like meeting up with my oldest best friend, even though I had only known him a few months.  I will keep in memory our last get-together for a store closing reunion and our mutual love of being on the Hudson.

Sorry for the late Condolence. I an very sorry for your loss. I worked with Barie at GNY. We often swapped sailing stories in lieu of working. We had many laughs. Barie was knowledgeable on many subjects in addition to sailing, and I always got a kick out of his case analysis. I regret never taking up his invitation for a sail on his boat, and mine was too far away for us to go out on it. We'll sail together in Heaven one day. Smart guy with a sparkling smile. 

Many of my most joyous memories from my childhood and my teens feature Barie -- who was like my uncle. The Pilatos and the Sniders were very close families in the 80s and 90s and despite time and distance, I cannot help but feel immense loss too today. With the passage of time and a selfish wish to make the next time I came and said hello a good time, even when I was living close by in Queens, as an adult I just never made the time personally I should have to reconnect.  

But I remember every bit of our time together being exciting and often bliss: in the city, in DC or NY,  drives along the Hudson in that pretty, pretty convertible with its top down, to Coney Island and the top of the World Trade Center, to riding bikes in the woods in central Maryland, to two-family family meals in Maryland or New York -- with crabs or bagels. 

I remember Barie's zest for life and storytelling and eventually acting. I only ever saw snippets of him in clips and bits on the Conan O'Brien show, but I really loved it and so wish I'd seen more. I would have so loved to have seen him in a play. Right as my own professional acting career began a decade ago, back in January 2010, I think was the last time I saw Barie in person.  I was immensely inspired by his turn towards acting, and he and Aileen saw me in a production of Harold Pinter's "The Homecoming" in Baltimore. I was so touched by both of their love and support.

I do hope the fact that it's been nearly a couple months since his passing doesn't make them unwelcome. I was enraged about the preventable spread of a disease that took him away. But I still am. And I regret taking so long to say something here, and that I let that be in the way.

To the Sniders, to Aileen and Martha and Maren, and to all who knew and loved Barie, I offer my deepest condolences and a hope for better times to come.

I was so sorry to learn of Baz' passing.  Both a talented actor and a sweetheart to work with, Baz played a multitude of roles in my collection of short comedies, FOREIGN AFFAIRS, and he wonderful in each. The photo is from one of those comedies, BRAZILIAN WAX ELOQUENT. Thank you, Baz, for your talent and your heart. 

I didn’t know Barie but he must have been a wonderful man to have a daughter like Maren.  She has helped our Great Pyrenees Rescue for 12 years, quietly and kindly behind the scenes.  As I read through the memories of Barie, I see they have much in common. I am so sorry for your loss. You are all very lucky to have had him, as we are to know and work with Maren.   

I'd known sweet Baz for a couple decades, I'm guessing. We met at Harbor Theater, remet at Workshop Theater. What a bright, funny, multitalented, and caring guy -- one who made a mean baked Alaska. Back in 2005, my family joined him & Aileen on their boat, and Baz even let our 12-year-old Nick pilot a bit. (Including a photo of them from that day.) Will miss Baz sorely. -- MichaelG

"Martha, So sorry for you, Aileen and family and so sad to hear of Barie's death as he was a good friend. He was a lot of fun to work with over nearly the past 20 years. I always told him to his face that he was a true Renaissance man. His experience and knowledge base of law, medicine and engineering was amazing. I was very happy that he continued working part time because I saw that it was good for him personally and that he enjoyed it so much. I purposely did not give him an office as that would have isolated him. Rather I kept him on the open floor with the new examiners all of whom he made friends with and who benefited from the way he would pick apart a plaintiff case over the phone. Barie will be well remembered."

	"My Grandpa Barie has one of the most kindest souls I have ever met. I remember how welcoming he was when I first met him and we got along right from the start. I remember staying in a hotel with him on the trip to Colorado watching beach volleyball (it was for the Olympics…). He told me how he grew up around parasites and leeches, which is exactly how I describe my blood relatives. We got talking about how we wanted more for ourselves and how that drive led us to where we are that day, me with a grandpa and him with a grandson. 
	I appreciate all of the walks and drives that we would go on with Dora when I came to visit. I loved hearing the stories that he would tell and the scenery that he showed me. I have seen more out of life and the world in those small moments than I did the entire twenty some odd years I spent knowing my blood relatives. I never once looked at those walks/drives as a chore. I have lost people before and shrugged it off, but I have never lost anyone important before. I am going to miss you Grandpa Barie, but I am also going to love you forever."

Baz was a close friend for many years.  We first met at the Housing Authority Law Department, where we frequently met for coffee breaks, discussing all the events of the day.  I enjoyed  attending his plays, getting together at restaurants and at his home. We went on many sailing trips together with friends including Bill and Deb, taking many trips to Block Island, the Chesapeake and up the Hudson River. After countless hours both on boats and off, the conversation never flagged because Baz always had something interesting to say. He will be missed. 

Capt. Baz,
The news of your passing deeply saddens me as I am sure it did to the many people you met and left a lasting impression on along the way. You were a great colleague, friend and sailor to name a few.  I recall the day we went fishing on my boat and you landed your personal best Striped Bass (picture attached).  My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to your family and friends. Dear Aileen and family,

I am very sorry for your loss.  Barie and I were friends at NYCHA.  I attended several of his plays, visited your house with my young son at the time, and went to your daughter's wedding.  I remember the Star Wars theme.   At the time I was going through or recently divorced and Barie was supportive.  (My son will be 24 next month.)

Barie told me stories about Vietnam and Australia.  I am sorry we fell out of touch.
