David Michael Londin was born on February 2, 1950. He was Trudy and Hy's first son, following his older sisters Sandy and Betty in a loving, Jewish home. The family lived upstairs at 1817 Tenbroeck Avenue in the Bronx, and David's grandparents, Bea and Lou, lived downstairs. They had four dogs, all named Penny, including David's beloved collie, followed by a fifth who they named Nickel.
David attended P.S. 108 and 127, for grade school and junior high, respectively, and Christopher Columbus High School. He graduated from Pace University and completed a Masters in Public Health degree at Baruch College. David served in the US Army Reserves in 1971 as a medic, going as far as Washington and Texas for basic training. David worked for 35 years in administrative roles of nursing care facilities, including 23 years as the Executive Director of the Workmen's Circle Multi-Care Center in the Bronx. In 2007, David returned to the family flooring business that he co-founded in 1977, opening Allure Carpet and Flooring in New City, NY where his family resided for 36 years.
One highlight of David's adolescence was the stickball games where he pitched a slow curve ball that befuddled the best batters. He was a very clutch anchor bowler over the years in league play. He loved playing cards and was highly adept at gin rummy and poker. Awards filled his walls, including "Man of the Year" from the UJA, still, he showed the most pride for the multiple golf flights he won during his time as a member of Minisceongo Country Club in Pomona, NY. David was also an avid movie goer and was fascinated with crime dramas, few more so than the mysteries surrounding the 35th president.
David was always in on the joke but he never made fun of others. In fact, he was so principled that he received a broken nose protecting a classmate with polio from the schoolyard bully, and he never wavered in his dedication to standing up for just causes. David's greatest skill was that he earnestly saw the best in people and had a knack for lifting one up. Above all, David was a family man, perpetually there to lend an ear or give a ride, and he provided unceasing encouragement.
David is survived by his wife Karen; his eldest son Bradley and his wife Liz; his second son Howard, his wife Jessica and their daughter Eva; his third son Jeffrey, his wife Stephanie and their daughters Marley and Tess; his daughter Nancy; his sister Betty and large extended family; and by friends, employees and congregants whose lives he touched with his warmth, kindness, compassion, humor and love. He will be greatly missed.
