Edward Hal Cohen, “Eddie,” passed away at age 60 on Friday, May 13th, 2022. He was born on May 9th, 1962, in Suffern, New York to Rita and Murray Cohen and older brothers, Michael and Kenneth. Ed graduated from Spring Valley High School with the Class of 1980, and received his BS in Biology with a Minor in Math, Chemistry, and Physics from the State University of New York at Albany in 1984. He then earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College in 1989, graduating in the top 10% of his class.
Eddie went on to build his own multidisciplinary practice in 1991 in Closter, New Jersey, near his home in Norwood, New Jersey. From the start of his career up until the very end of his life, Ed devoted himself to healing patients of all ages with an incredible amount of passion and charisma. He provided treatment for a broad diversity of conditions and injuries. Pioneering the use of some of the latest equipment, he became a leader in the chiropractic field in the northeast region. Ed gained the trust and loyalty of his community; patients traveled from afar to see him. Eddie made very real and personal connections with many of his patients.
Throughout his career, Ed traveled the country to attend and present at chiropractic seminars. He was a Board Member for the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors (ANJC) of the Northeast Region. He received several awards for his outstanding effort and dedication to the chiropractic field. He was certified in Hospital Procedures and Protocols by the Meadowlands Hospital and Medical Center. He also was an associate of Rutgers University Athletics. Ed volunteered for many years at town-wide health fairs and screenings with the Closter Board of Health. He was an important member of the Breakthrough Coaching Chiropractic team, sharing his insight and knowledge with chiropractors across the country.
Outside of his vocation, some of Ed’s passions included music, sports, his two dogs, and most of all, his children. He was an incredible father, inspiring and supporting his daughter, Candace and son, Jarred in their endeavors and commitments. Ed happily traveled all over the country to support his son’s involvement in competitive hockey. He rarely missed a game. He spent his free time on making his house a home - He was passionate about design and was an amazing handy-man. Ed loved trips to the Jersey shore and going to live music shows. Some of his favorite bands were the Allman Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks band and Bad Company.
Ed was known for his refreshing and genuine personality. He had light-hearted energy; he was always making people laugh and striking up conversations with new people. He took pride in putting his all into everything he did. He will be dearly missed.
