I was a student of Eleanor's in 1982-83 at Clarkstown High School North. I had the great pleasure of reconnecting with her when she lived at Cedar Crest. While visiting my mother there once a few years ago, I noticed her in the dining room and kept thinking, that woman looks so much like my biology teacher, I simply must ask her. I did, and it was! It was wonderful to share with her that her biology class inspired me to devote a career to science. She had a lasting influence with her caring interest for her students, her challenging but fun class, and going above and beyond, for example taking us to special public lectures at Rockefeller University in Manhattan. I so enjoyed chatting and catching up with her on my visits to Cedar Crest. I am very saddened by the news, but will keep this very special woman and teacher with me forever. My deepest condolences to her family for their loss of someone so loving, who touched so many people in profound and lasting ways.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ellie a number of years ago when she co-led a women's discussion group with Merri Rosenbaum at the JCC Rockland. I was impressed by her intelligence, warmth, sense of humor and great sense of fashion! I missed her since she moved to Pompton Plains. May her family and friends always remember her fondly.
