

Irene S. Bielski of Suffern, NY passed away on Thursday March 9, 2017. Irene was born September 24, 1942 in the Bronx, NY to Milton and Annie Shumofsky. She was a graduate of SUNY Potsdam and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Hunter College. Irene was a teacher in the East Ramapo Central School District for 43 years. She taught at the Oakwood and Lime Kiln Elementary Schools and was an officer of the East Ramapo Teachers Association for 30 years, serving 16 years as President of that organization. Her dedication and commitment to the teachers and students of the East Ramapo Central School District was unsurpassed. In addition, Irene volunteered her time with Hadassah, B’nai Brith and the National Council of Jewish Women. Irene is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, George. She is also survived by her son, Jason Bielski and wife Janine, her daughter Jana Morace and husband Peter, her daughter Ilissa Gorman and her husband Chris, her grandchildren Avery, Elodie, Gabriella, Matthew, Dylan and Ethan, her sister Rhoda Hale, her nephew Ben Hale and his wife Allison Cloyd, and her nephew Brendan Hale. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY. Interment will follow at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY. The family will be observing Shiva at the family residence beginning 3:00 PM Monday March 13, 2017 through Wednesday evening March 15, 2017.
