He was born and raised in the Bronx, NY, to Shirley and Marshall Schwartz. He attended Hunter College in the Bronx, where he met his future bride, Hilary, in the chorus of the student production of “Bye, Bye, Birdie!” They married 3 years later, and made beautiful music together for (almost) 55 years of marriage. After Hunter, Jason received a fellowship to study at Ferkauf Graduate School of Yeshiva University, where he earned his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1983.
While studying, he taught for the NYC Board of Education, and from 1973-1981 was Director/Psychologist of the Waters Place School of Bronx Children’s Psychiatric Hospital. From 1978-1986 he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Graduate Division of Herbert H. Lehman College of the City of NY. From 1981 to 2004, he was School Psychologist for the Nyack School District in Nyack, NY., where he was also golf coach. In 1986 he began a private practice as NYS Licensed Clinical Psychologist, which continued through his illness until it became clear it was time to retire.
Jason was a member of the US Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged in 1974.
Over the years Jason bowled and played tennis, but he loved golf - he played it, coached it, watched it, and never stopped studying the game. He was a golfer!!
Of all Jason’s pursuits, his greatest passion was his family. They were his love, his joy, his pride, and his happiness. Home was truly where his heart was. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Hilary Schwartz, nee Lind; his loving children, Randall Schwartz (Tina), Rachel Megdal (Howard), grandchildren, Zachary and Robbie Schwartz and Mirabelle and Juliet Megdal. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings, Mitchell Schwartz (Francine) and Stefany Holt (David) and in-law siblings to whom he was a brother, Lewis Lind (Jane), Jeffrey Lind (Maida), and Fredda Rosen (Hank); and many loving nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
He was a kind, sweet man. He was a nurturer, a listener, a caregiver, a joke teller, and a good friend. He fought and endured his illness with bravery, dignity, and resilience, while deepening his connections with those he loved and those who loved him. And he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 80 Commerce St, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
