
Joel L. Kanter passed away on April 3, 2022 in his home of natural causes at the age of 83. He was born on September 25, 1938 in New York City to Benedict and Ruth Kanter. After graduating from Columbia University and the New York Medical College, Joel worked as a physician – an internist – for 36 years, with a practice in Blauvelt, New York. Joel also served as a doctor in the United States Army for two years, where he held the rank of Major. After retiring in 2006, Joel enjoyed spending time with friends and family in New City, New York and Boynton Beach, Florida. Joel had a wide range of hobbies: he was an avid golfer and reader. He liked to fish with his sons and was a wine connoisseur. He enjoyed attending lectures about current events, movies, and art with his wife. Joel is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Kanter; his sons, Andrew and Brian; his daughters-in-law, Joelle and Cheryl; and his grandchildren, Josh, Taryn, and Bennett. Funeral services will be held at The Reform Temple of Rockland, in Nyack, New York, on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, a private burial ceremony for family and close friends will take place at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries in Paramus, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Reform Temple of Rockland.
