Spring Valley - Laura Cohen, 98, passed away on March 7, 2021. Laura was the beloved wife of the late Bernard (Bernie) Cohen for 72 years, loving mother of Alan (Jennifer), Howard (Howie) (Vicki Forbes), grandmother to Danielle (James Palazzo), Brandon (Samantha Acunto), Joshua and Mollye. Great grandmother (Bubbe) to Olivia and Louis Palazzo and Bode Cohen. Laura was predeceased by her brother Morris Cohen and sister Anne Gary. Laura had many, many friends that she loved dearly and considered them to be her family as well. Laura was born in Brooklyn, NY and since she was 15, she was a devoted Yankee fan. Bernie and Laura met in their mid-teens and continued to be by each other’s side until his death. Bernie and Laura moved to Spring Valley where she lived for 61 years and raised their sons and welcomed their extended families. Laura was a devoted employee for the NY State Civil Service for most of her working career. Fun was something Laura always loved. She could always be relied upon to tell a good joke and was the life of every party. She enjoyed singing, dancing and being theatrical. Laura’s door was always open to welcome visitors anytime whether they were there to play cards, have cake or just talk, she enjoyed being around people. Her hidden talent was writing poetry. She had a special gift and could write a poem without much effort. In consideration of the COVID challenges, a celebration of Laura’s wonderful life will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers or food, please consider a donation to your favorite charity or local food bank in Laura’s name. Laura was a longtime member of Shaarey Israel. A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:00 am at the Jewish Community Center Synagogue Cemetery, Route 306 & Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, NY 10977. Please celebrate her life by recalling a fond memory or joke that will bring a smile to your face. Nothing would make Laura happier. Laura will be missed by her family and friends.
