I had the honor of working with, and learning from, Leona for the past 8 years.  She was always so diligent in her work and often referred to us as investigators when approving the STAR applications.  She said she learned how to be so attentive to detail working for her father's insurance company.  As we carry on collecting the STAR applications I am constantly reminded of the pride she took in doing her work.  

Today two of her "regulars" came in bearing gifts for her and upon learning of her passing we all had a good cry at the counter.  She is sorely missed by so many of the people she's helped over the years.  


We will always have Leona in our hearts whenever someone mentions the word STAR, because she was ours.

I've known Leona from my family and myself working at Town Hall for nearly two decades of my life. Over the years it was always wonderful to see her, whether meeting in the hall or visiting within the departments. Women like Leona come along so rarely - always a smile and a laugh and worked until the day where she could no longer do so. Her words of kindness and friendship will always resonate with me, and I will miss her so very much. Rest easy, Leona. You'll always be that spunky little lady zipping around town in your Honda as though you weren't a day over 25!

The entire Town of Greenburgh is in mourning over the passing of Leona. Leona was a community treasure, a hard worker, well liked and respected. She was honored as a member of the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame and helped hundreds of seniors citizens reduce their tax bills --working for the Assessor's office.
She will be missed and always appreciated. At our next Town Board meeting there will be a moment of silence in honor and in memory of Leona.
