

Lester Teicher passed away on April 22, 2015 at the age of 90. He was born at the original Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. His parents Bessie and Harry Teicher owned a small business in Spring Valley and he attended North Main Street School and Spring Valley High School on Main Street. On June 21, 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in North Africa and Italy for 3 years as an M.P. He joined the Ramapo Police on July 14, 1952 and went to the Police Academy in 1956 to further his knowledge and skills and returned to take courses to become a Detective with rank of Sgt. On July 24, 1964 he married the love of his life Sally who predeceased him on April 28, 2006. He served the town of Ramapo for 31 years retiring in 1983, with his most notable case being a part of the Brinks Robbery investigation. After several vacations and long auto trips across the U.S. and Canada, Lester returned to Ramapo as a Court Officer for 9 years. During all this time he also joined The Spring Valley Fire Department - Rockland Hook and Ladder Co. He was a 50 year member on active duty until 2004 when he went on Administrative Duty and was made an Honorary Chief. His life was dedicated to serve and protect his family and the community. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Phyllis Schreier of Nanuet and loving grandson Stephen Schreier and wife Judy of Boca Raton, FL and cherished twin granddaughters Lana and Cayla of Boca Raton. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Lori Schreier. Graveside services will be held on Thursday April 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Congregation Sons of Israel SV Cemetery, Brick Church Road and Route 306, New Hempstead, NY.
