As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his greatest joys in life were spending time with family and friends enjoying saltwater fishing at the crack of dawn, eating breakfast at the diner, hosting barbeques, playing rounds of golf and watching the Yankees and Giants. Additionally, he inherited his parents’ love of opera, ballet, and Broadway. As co-founder of the Ramapo Basketball Association in Rockland County and as a coach, he was dedicated to bringing basketball opportunities to all players.
After graduating NYU, Maxwell served as first lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. As a successful businessman in the food brokerage industry, he gave back to the community through his work raising funds for muscular dystrophy research.
Maxwell and his wife Sandra shared a deep bond taking care of their cherished dogs Barney, Kira, and Scruffy. At their 50th wedding anniversary celebration, they expressed their deep love of their dogs.
Maxwell is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his daughter Joanne, his son Lawrence (and daughter-in-law Frances), and his grandchildren Edward, David, Denise, and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to PETA, the ASPCA, an animal organization, or your favorite charity.
