Mrs. Patricia Ellen Miller, of Piermont, New York – wife of the late Rick Miller, daughter of the late Irene and Edward Kreutzer, sister of the late Roger Kreutzer – died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Miller was born on Feb. 20, 1952, in Pearl River, New York. She was 66 years old and is survived by six cousins including Phyllis Shapiro of San Francisco; Cindi Finlay of Paris; Howard Cohen of Monroe Township, New Jersey; Phyllis Hemler of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; Janet Batlan of Gaithersburg, Maryland; and Susan Grant of England. She’s also survived by her dog, Chloe, whom she loved dearly and who is being adopted by a good friend.
After graduating from high school, she attended Columbia University and put herself through nursing school. She was known for her kindness, competence and compassion and worked as head cardiac nurse at New York Hospital then as head nurse at the Cardio-Pulmonary Intensive Care Unit at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
Pat was a devoted daughter, who took care of her parents as they aged. Supportive and caring, she cherished her many friends. She loved living in New York City and took full advantage of all it had to offer, going to the theater, opera, museums and more.
“I never saw her happier than when she was married to Rick Miller,” her friend Barbara DiPlacidi recalls. “Their wedding was a wonderful celebration, and she looked fabulous in her dress, hat and long gloves – you know how stylish Pat was! They both had an eye for decorating and took great pleasure decorating their Piermont and Jersey Shore homes. They had five wonderful years together.”
Pat’s cousin Cindi Finlay says: “As a child I remember driving to Pearl River, New York, to visit with Patty, her brother Roger and Aunt Irene and Uncle Eddie, my Dad’s brother. Irene was English (I believe from Liverpool) and she and Eddie met in Europe during World War II. Patty fought a number of battles, beginning with losing Rick, but she always fought with dignity and resolve.”
Her cousin Andy Shapiro remembers Pat’s “joyful energy, tremendous empathy, ability to fully embrace the moment, her deep love for her family and friends, and her unique sparkle and spirit.” He also recalls her “beautiful smile, exuberant laugh, openness to adventure, excellent listening skills and interest in others' lives.”
Pat was so special, her cousin Phyllis Shapiro, said. “I loved traveling with her, seeing her every time I visited New York, going to theatre with her and having her as a friend/cousin. Her smile could light up a room – she loved life and lived it to the fullest!”
Pat’s cousin Phyllis Hemler noted: “She has touched so many lives.”
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 10:45 AM at the Chapel at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, New York. 845-356-8600.
