Beloved husband of Cheryl. Devoted Father of Hilary Petersel, Lauren Gallo, Bonnie Leeds, and David Antokal. Adored grandpa of six with a seventh on the way. Caring son of the late Harold and Marilyn Stone. Brother of Bonnie Mehlinger.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he attended Boston University where he served as treasurer of his fraternity. Richard was an outstanding softball player and had many perfect bowling scores over the course of 40 years. Richard began working during college when he helped to run his family’s business and subsequently became a CPA. Throughout his career, Richard advised clients in many fields earning their great trust and respect. Friends and clients alike have said that whatever he did for them or with them, he did with a full heart, and in their best interest. Richard and Cheryl shared 35 beautiful years together, enjoying a circle of special friends whom they considered family, traveling extensively, and enjoying a long list of activities together. Richard held season’s basketball, baseball, ice hockey, and football tickets and rarely missed a game. He especially loved the New England Patriots and remained a devoted attendee even from New York. One of Richard’s proudest, fun achievements was having Earl the Pearl Monroe attend David’s Bar Mitzvah. Richard excelled at logic and math, was an excellent bridge player and had many friends with whom he enjoyed playing. He was a fierce competitor. He enjoyed meeting every two weeks with his poker buddies and loved plotting the best moves in his multiple fantasy leagues.
Richard had a witty sense of humor that would pop up unexpectedly and would make you laugh and you’d think “Did that come from the quiet man”!?
Most of all, Richard adored his family. He especially loved spending time in St. Maarten with Cheryl, the children, and grandchildren over the past 25 years. It was his happy place!
He was a cherished and loyal friend to many and will be greatly missed.
