Born in 1930 in New York City, Ruth was the daughter of Jewish immigrants Meyer and Gussie Gilman. She grew up in Greenwich Village, living above her father’s butcher shop. In 1948, Ruth married the love of her life, the late Dr. Richard Radford. While Richard attended NYU Medical School, Ruth supported them by working as a bookkeeper.
After living in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where Richard was stationed with the U.S. Air Force, the couple settled in Rockland County, New York. There, Richard opened his medical practice, and Ruth worked alongside him while also raising their family. Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, empathy, gentleness, and deep love—not only for her family, but for everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Following Richard’s passing, Ruth moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, where she formed many close friendships and was adored by her community. Every morning, you could find Ruth in the swimming pool with her friends doing water aerobics. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family’s health and happiness were always her greatest priority.
Ruth is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard and her brother Harold (Jennie). She is survived by her daughter Debbie (Bill), sons Douglas (Dana) and Derrick, grandchildren Melanie Borden (Adam Slater) and Gregory (Shruti), and great-grandchildren Layla and Mila.
Ruth’s warmth, joy, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
