Sandra N Kahn

Sandra Kahn (nee Steinman) known to her friends and family as Sandy was born on February 23, 1934. She grew up in the Bronx, graduating from William Taft High School. She then attended New York University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in education. Subsequently, she taught elementary school in New York City. After marrying Ronald upon his return from service in Korea, she retired from teaching.

Although she did not work while her children were small, she was involved in various organizations. She became active with Volunteer Counseling Service which furthered her interest in Social Work. She returned to school and obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work from Fordham University.

She became a Psychiatric Social Worker, working for the County of Rockland over many years. She began working at the Rockland County Health Center in Pomona doing crisis intervention. She later moved into an administrative role and was responsible for running the Rockland County Mental Health Center in Haverstraw.

Sandy Kahn was also instrumental in the formation of the Rockland Family Shelter. She was one of the initial people responsible for its founding.

Upon retirement she enjoyed travelling, spending time with friends attending theater and spending time with family.

She is survived by her children Lisa and Paul, her son-in-law and daughter-in-law Mark and Leslie and her grandchildren Justin, Michael, Allison, Jessica, Steven and Zachary.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, New York 10977. Interment will follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York 10595.
