Susan Darlene Peterson

December 6, 1955May 1, 2019

Susan Darlene Peterson, of Pearl River, passed away on May 1, 2019, surrounded by family. Susan was the oldest child of Anita and Sheldon (deceased) Kopf. She was born in the Bronx, on December 6, 1955. She graduated from Pearl River High School and the University of New Mexico. In January 1978, she married William Peterson (deceased) and lived overseas in Algeria for several years, where they were fortunate to travel throughout Europe. They returned home to Rockland County, New York in 1981 and welcomed their beautiful daughter Julie Elizabeth.

Susan’s love of travel led her to start a successful travel consultancy, Peterson Global Travel. Her clients recognized her excellence in planning memorable worldwide and cruise adventures. Most recently, she fulfilled one of her dreams by cruising to Cuba.

Susan especially loved, and was so proud of, her daughter Julie Peterson Power (Marc). Family was of the utmost importance, as evidenced by her close relationship with her sisters, Audrey Soss (Glen) and Nancy Robertson (Edward), parents Anita and Sheldon Kopf, and nieces and nephews Andrew Soss (Stephanie), Amy Breakstone (Dean), Matthew Robertson and Mark Robertson. She adored being a great aunt to Emma and Max Breakstone, as well as Stepmom to Doug (Andrea) and Grandma Sue to Gavin and Ethan. The family dog Winston always gave her joy.

She was a loyal and trusted friend to many. Susan was incredibly brave and optimistic throughout her brief fight against Sarcoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Susan’s memory to the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA). Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019, 9:00 AM, at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY. Interment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery, Monmouth Junction, NJ.

My dear Sue. We had so much fun in college, working together at the Broadway, and don’t forget our trip to Las Vegas. Sitting with you and talking about the future on your wedding day to the crazy life of yours in Algeria, plus spending some time with you in NY and having you play tour guide. Going to Little Italy (my only time to NY) and having you and Julie spend time in Santa Fe in 2006. I will miss you so much but am thankful for more than 40 years of your friendship. Love you and will keep you in my heart always.
