Alan Charles Theobald, 74, of Springboro, Ohio passed away at Ohio Hospice of Dayton on March 26, 2022. He was born to Charles and Doris Theobald on December 13, 1947. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt and uncle Pat and Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr., and his aunt and uncle Lois and James May. Alan was devoted son and active caregiver to his parents. He considered his Uncle Mal an inspiration and his Aunt Lois as almost a second mother. Alan is survived by his wife Winifred Theobald nee Kissler, his daughter Megan Walker and her husband Michael, his friend and brother-in-law Donald Kissler, his nephew Andrew and his wife Jennifer and their children William and Ava, and his niece Sarah Maple and her husband Daniel and their children Piper and Brooks. He is survived by his cousins Craig Deisenroth, Mary Deisenroth, Oakley Deisenroth, Susan Roach and her husband Jeffrey and their daughter Mary Genthon and her husband Jacob. These family members and his friends were his deepest source of joy.
Alan was born in Louisville, KY and graduated from Waggener High School where friends introduced him to Winnie. He continued his education at the University of Kentucky where he worked as Student Manager to the Wildcats men’s basketball team under Adolph Rupp and Joe B. Hall. Alan liked to recount that he had packed his biggest milestones of his young life into one week in August 1969: he earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree from UK, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force, and he and Winnie married. Alan served in the Air Force for nearly eleven years including tours of duty at MacDill Air Force Base, Korea, Vietnam, Newark Air Force Station, and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Alan earned his Master of Science in Logistics Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1977.
In his civilian career, Alan worked as a Certified Public Accountant within several companies throughout Ohio. He especially valued his time at Aeronca, Danis Construction, ICI, and Blue Chip Enterprises. He and Winnie joined St Francis Episcopal Church during the early years of the congregation. Alan loved his time as a parent member of the “Pit Crew” supporting the Springboro High School Marching Band in which his daughter played. His proudest accomplishment was organizing the band’s 2000 performance in the Main Street Electrical Parade at Walt Disney World and the weeklong vacation trip for the marching band and their supporters.
Alan’s love of golf sparked friendships throughout all stages of his life. His standing golf rounds with his closest friends were the highlights of his weeks in his retirement. A Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and season ticketholder to UK basketball, he especially loved attending games with friends at Rupp Arena. He would want to be remembered by his neighbors, both human and canine, as “Mr Biscuit” his pockets always stocked with dog treats to meet new and old friends on his walks. He is remembered for his generosity, his intelligence, his love of storytelling, and his fierce love for friends and family.
Visitation to be held at 9:00 am on Friday, April 1 at St Francis Episcopal Church, 225 N Main Street, Springboro, OH. Church services immediately following at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio Hospice of Dayton, the ASPCA, or your local animal shelter.
