Asher McGeorge peacefully went to be with Jesus on May 20, 2025 at home with his beloved miracle child Ashley Gail and fur babies, Oliver and Aggie by his side. He was reunited with his precious wife of 49 years, Judy Gail, on the streets of Heaven, along with his mother Carrie (Hatfield) who he lost at the tender age of 7, his father Clocus, brother Elmer, or Bud as he called him, sister Della Chiles and sister in law Janie Thomas. We also know he is having fellowship with dear friends Woody Harville and Paul Beardsley. He is survived by his devoted only child Ashley and nieces Della, Deanna, Bobbie and Christina along with nephew Ricky, a great nephew, also a veteran, and multiple great nieces. Included as well is very special friend who Asher called “the son I never had”, Ben Freeman and Judy’s best friend Sandra Beardsley.
Asher was born on October 11, 1939 in Harlan, Kentucky and lived there for his very early years. He lived his youth in Richmond, Indiana. A month before his sixteenth birthday in 1955 he “couldn’t wait” to serve his country, fibbed about his age and joined the United States Army. He was the proudest American. He served two years overseas in Germany in the 3rd Division as a tank and APC driver and sharpshooter. He is considered a veteran of the Cold War. He carried fond and sad memories of his time there for his entire life and was always beyond grateful of his opportunity to serve his country.
In 1976 he met the love of his life, Judy Sammons. Six months after meeting they eloped to Tennessee. After obtaining their marriage license they went to the Justice of the Peace who just happened to work at the bank. They became husband and wife in a bank vault. A uniquely romantic way to begin a uniquely romantic marriage. Judy went to Paradise in January of 2023 and it has been the desire of his heart since then to be reunited with her. To be a witness to that would’ve been quite a special moment but ordained for them alone. They will get to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together on May 1, 2026.
Asher worked as a steel company crane operator following his time in the service, Kroger Dairy, Cooper Tire and Rubber and his post retirement job at Warren County Community Services driving the elderly. He spent the last few months of his life fostering dogs with his daughter which was a beautiful way to share his precious heart with the animal he loved so much.
It is important to note that he is also survived by four precious girls who are the granddaughters of his heart. Katie Rose, Kayla, Gracie and Gaby.
Asher always said Jesus looked after and protected him his entire life because beginning with losing his mother so young his life was not easy and he firmly believed in Psalm 121:8, “The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore”.
The family asks donations be made to Ohio’s Hospice who provided sacred care to Asher the last month of his earthly life in lieu of flowers.
