Bernice, my Mamaw, was such a caring, sweet, and kind person. She had a heart of gold and the soul of an angel. She was the most loving grandmother and I am blessed to have had her love. I always felt so much comfort and unconditional love from Mamaw. She made me feel better when I was sick. She was a wonderful listener and loved to talk. She would always ask how other friends and family were doing and wanted me to wish everyone well for her. Mamaw was the best country cook, and she would make whatever anyone wanted at any time. She called everyone "honey" and loved giving big hugs.
Mamaw and Papaw have always been together and lived in the same house my whole life. Prayers and love to my Papaw during this difficult time. And to the whole family, and my dad and uncle Tim and uncle Jim. I'm so sorry for this great loss in all our lives. May she rest peacefully now and shine her bright loving light down on all of us. She will be so missed by so many.

All my love forever,

I just talked to Bernice on the phone in April. I enjoyed listening to her memories of growing up in Van Lear with our brothers and sisters and the good times we've shared together. She also shared memories of going to Grandpa and Grandma's and talked fondly of our family holidays. She really enjoyed telling me about their lives and remembering her younger years. I'll never forget all the great memories with my loving sister.

So very sad for the loss of Bernice. The kindest and most forgiving person I have known. Simply the best. Will be remembered and loved by everyone who knew her. Heartfelt sympathy for husband James. Forever love to my big sister. Bonita

The one thing that really stands out about aunt Bernice is her canned beets over the years I have on accaisions canned her recipe well actually it was a aunt of hers recipe virgies . But aunt Bernice was kind enough to write it down and pass it on to me and if you never liked beets before you would love these and over the years when I would share them with others I would have to tell them all about who taught me and shared it with me my loving aunt! So it will be passed on to my granddaughter with love!!!!!!

We are so saddened by this . Bernice was wonderful.
And the nicest person you could ever meet. We talked about our visit with her and the family many times over the years . She was a wonderful cook and made us feel so welcome. We regret not getting back to Ohio for another visit. Uncle James please know that we are thinking about you and the boys. Love and peace to you all. She will surely be missed.
